Daniel R. Aguinaldo National High School is a public secondary school〔(【引用サイトリンク】title=Department of education : Master List of Secondary School Administrators : 2011 )〕 in Region XI - Davao Region in The Philippines. It is the largest high school〔() 〕 the Davao City. It's School ID number is 304359. It is the one of a leading provider of quality public secondary education since 1967. It is considered as the most populated high school〔http://www.abs-cbnnews.com/nation/regions/06/10/08/tents-used-makeshift-classrooms-albay〕 and one of the biggest and top performing public high schools in the Davao City. ==History== The Birth of Daniel R. Aguinaldo National High School The growing need for a public high school in Matina was the impetus that compelled Mrs. Beatriz Cornelia, the Barrio Captain of[ Matina, Mr. Nemesio Guting, retired Principal and Mr. Godofredo Verzosa Sr., PTA President of Matina Central Elementary School to work for the opening of a public high school in this part of the city. On February 14, 1967, the Matina Community High School finally opened its doors to first and second year students. One hundred fifty (150) students enrolled with two (2) sections in the first year and one (1) in the second year. On June 30, 1967, the City Council passed Resolution No. 571 creating three (3) barrio high schools namely: Calinan Barrio High School, Matina Barrio High School and Piedad Barrio High School. The newly opened high school was renamed Matina Barrio High School in consonance with the City Council Resolution. Third and Fourth year levels were opened in the following school year. There were five regular high school teachers and the Principal of the elementary school was designated Assistant Principal. The school was under the administration and supervisory control of Davao City High School. The original high school teachers were Mrs. Mercedes Palacay, Mrs. Rosalita Valenzuela, Mrs. Lourdes de la Cruz, Mr. Delfin Guting, Miss Ofelia Bernardino and Atty. Rafael Reyes Sr., the Assistant Principal. The new high school shared classrooms and other facilities with Matina Central Elementary School. The first graduation was held in 1970. The First School Buildings On the second year of its operation, a seven-classroom Veloso type building was built. Owing to the ever-increasing student population, the PTA made representations to the national government for additional classrooms. This resulted to the construction of three (3) units of Marcos-type buildings. Still, there were not enough rooms to accommodate the influx of more enrollees. So, the PTA Officials headed by Atty. Felix Rebagay as President endeavored to construct a two-storey building with 12 classrooms. The School Site The present school site is around 500 meters more or less from MacArthur Highway passing through Sto. Niño St. It has a campus area of four (4) hectares and Nine Hundred (900) square meters. This is part of the Six Hundred Sixty Five Thousand Eight Hundred and Eighty One (665,881) Square Meters of land donated to the City of Davao by the Mindanao Realty Corporation with the signing of a Deed of Donation on October 26, 1990 by Nestor L. Jose, President of the Corporation, and the Honorable Mayor Rodrigo R. Duterte, representing the City of Davao. The document stipulates, among other things, that to honor and perpetuate the memory of one of the founders of the Donor-Corporation, the High School shall be named Daniel R. Aguinaldo Memorial High School. The Sangguniang Panlungsod accepted this agreement on August 27, 1990 with the enactment of Resolution No. 1023 series of 1990. The Matina Central Elementary School currently occupies the remaining area of the donated land. The Development of its Name It was mentioned earlier that the school was named Matina Community High School during its opening on February 14, 1967. However, with the passing of City Council Resolution No. 571 on June 30, 1967 after a few months of its operation, it was renamed Matina Barrio High School. In 1986, the school was again renamed to Matina High School. When the Deed of Donation was signed on October 26, 1990, one of the stipulations was to rename the school to Daniel R. Aguinaldo Memorial High School to perpetuate the memory of one of the founders of the donor-corporation. On August 25, 1993, however, the Office of the City Mayor and the donor requested the Sangguniang Panlungsod to rename Matina High School to Daniel R. Aguinaldo High School in lieu of what has been contained in the signed document. The legislative body passed on October 15, 1993 Ordinance No. 1444 as contained in Sangguniang Panlungsod Resolution No. 5330 series of 1993, amending Resolution 1023, series of 1990, deleting the word “memorial” from the name of the institution. Thus, the name Daniel R. Aguinaldo High School was adopted henceforth. On October 7, 1994, the Department of Education, Culture and Sports through Undersecretary Erlinda C. Pefianco, Officer-In-Charge, approved the request to change the name of Matina High School to Daniel R.
